Description

This project was part of a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Myanmar and China in 2011. The rail would have linked Myanmar's Kyaukyu seaport in the Bay of Bengal and China's city of Kunming. In 2014, the MoU was cancelled and the project was not picked up by either side. According to the Myanmar's Railway Ministry director, Myint Wai, the cancellation of the project was "the will of the Myanmar people."
